London: Borough Gets Real

For the first time in the Market’s 250 year history it has joined forces with an annual food festival, bringing fantastic new producers to London’s most popular and historic food market.

Every Thursday, 14 Real Food Festival producers will come to London bringing Borough Market’s shoppers and the local community even more choice and the opportunity to buy great quality, fresh produce and ingredients at affordable prices, direct from the producer. The Real Food Festival will also be working with the Soil Association to bring a selection of the Festival’s organic producers to take part and we are delighted that, with Borough Market’s help, we are able to support our Real Food producers to find a new channel to sell their wonderful products.

The link between the Real Food Festival and Borough Market is a natural one – the Real Food Festival showcases wonderful, seasonal, food & drink produced sustainably and ethically from all around the UK and is synonymous with the ethos and beliefs of Borough Market

The Real Food Festival - 7-10th May, provides an annual platform to showcase smaller producers by offering subsidised stands at its show at Earl’s Court and in line with the shows philosophy, Real Food Festival stalls at Borough Market are also subsidised.

The launch of the Real Food Festival at Borough Market will include something for all of the family during half term week and one of the highlights will be Petal the Water Buffalo who is coming with Laverstoke Park Farm. There will also be some fabulous Real Food chefs who will be demonstrating what they can do with some of the wonderful ingredients available in the market:

Foodtripper: The Collection has just launched. This boutique selection of the world's best cookery holidays brings global gourmet retreats direct to your fingertips... your very own delicious escape is just a click away. On Foodtripper TV, we’ve invited top chef Rowley Leigh to make the most of Spain's short-lived Picota cherry season, cooking up a classic clafoutis. And we have a fab holiday to Spain's Jerte Valley for one lucky individual.

In anticipation of a long, hot, British summer I stay close to home dropping by Le Cafe Anglais where Rowley Leigh  - just turned 60 - shares future plans  for the restaurant and role as poster boy for the forthcoming Picota cherry season. Across town, at The Lanesborough, Heinz Beck's elegant summer menu is served. Go there for the chaud-froid Herbal infusion with tuna tartare and green tea sorbet - more Mediterranean gluttony than molecular gastronomy.

Foodtripper met the most lauded chefs on earth at The World's Fifty Best Restaurant Awards. Taking 1st prize is Noma in Copehagen knocking El Bulli off the top spot and sending a ripple effect through the chart. Heston moves down to 3rd place. Hibiscus is in, by a whisker, at number 49 leaving the total number of Brits in the top 50 at a mere three.
