Food Trippers, Spring brings more episodes of my Food Tripper TV series exploring food history and culture all over the world. This time I'm in the Black Forest, Estonia and Grenada and you can watch all three 60-minute shows on Travel Channel on Sky 251.
IN THE BLACK FOREST I get a guided gastro-forage like no other, pick my way through cherry orchards and sample artisan Black Forest ham and cheese. It might be the height of summer when I swing by the nation's favourite chocolatier but he's already flooded with Christmas orders so I step in to lend a hand. And a glittering line-up of German chefs await to greet me for a spot of Michelin kitchen action. Duration 60-minutes
IN ESTONIA In the capital of Tallin I travel back in time to find out what was on the menu in Medieval times and later, how the Soviet occupation affected the national diet. On the trail of Nordic Island Cuisine I sail across the Baltic to the remote island of Muhu before travelling further south east on the mainland to get hands on baking and pickling with the Setu people, Europe's longest settled community. Duration 60 minutes
IN GRENADA In the sun-drenched Caribbean I head to the spice island of Grenada in search of nutmeg, cocoa and a man aiming to make the world's most ethical chocolate bar. I find out how to cook with callaloo before disappearing into the rainforest, with the island's self-proclaimed Indiana Jones, for a spot of a wild food hunting. Duration 60 minutes
Don't miss it. Helen |
