Featured Cookery School: The Food Room & Library, London
The School A venue with a difference, The Food Room & Library is an elegant Pimlico sitting room in which to discuss, read and learn all about food. On offer are 'demonstrations, conversation and tastings', with a flexible, bespoke approach to creating tailored events for groups and individuals. The philosophy behind the venture is instilling confidence in the kitchen to the individual- with a view to creating cooks rather than simply teaching a few dishes for home replication. As an adjunct, there's a wonderfully extensive library of food books available for students' and members' perusal. The Classes
The Food Room aims to help you 'be spontaneous and assured in the kitchen', with demonstrations using a wide range of produce to show students creative cooking, how to plan sequence and time preparation, taste food properly, enhance presentation skills and equip students with the skill to salvage culinary disasters! Following a demo, students may stay on and browse the amazing collection of books in the Library, where a selection of the newer publications are available for sale. Practical Info £25 per person (up to a maximum of 10) includes 45 minutes of quick-step tips and tricks, a glass of wine/cup of coffee and tasting samples of the food prepared. £120 demonstrations occur on Thursday afternoons between 1.00 p.m. and 3.45 p.m.. These are extensive, detailed three-hour sessions for up to 6 students, including lunch with wine, coffee/tea and take-home tasting samples, plus use of The Food Library post-demonstration. An annual fee of £200 gains drop-in access to The Food Library- including advice on menu planning and cookery, magazines to browse and refreshments. Library opening hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.45 am to 11.30am. Membership of the library gives individuals a 10% discount on demonstrations. |
