Foodtripper's on a voyage of rediscovery this month: back to Iceland - there are no travel restrictions - where Craig Butcher ventured last year to visit a 7th generation dairy farmer all the way north on Lake Myvatn. And through the vistas of time with food writer Will Roberts who recalls a childhood abhorring grapefruit. Not so now - this all grown-up palate jumped at the chance to sample
seasonal South African varieties and even suggests a few unusual pairings.
Planning a summer holiday around Britain? Zoe Perrett discovers the arriving is as good as the destination with the bounty of British produce available from
farm gates en route to the south west.
Foodtripper spent an evening at the end of April in the glamorous surrounds of London's Guild Hall for the World's Fifty Best Restaurants. Noma in Copenhagen takes first prize knocking El Bulli off the top spot and sending a ripple effect right through the chart. Heston moves down to third place. Hibiscus slides in at number 49 bringing the total number of Brits in the top 50 to three - St John being the third suffering a severe tumble of 29 places. Three Michelin Star, Daniel in New York is the highest climber, up a whopping 33 places. The Spanish dominate the top ten, the Americans are gathering pace in this globally competition and the Australians are definitely ones to watch. Foodtripper was right to review Mark Best's New South Wales restaurant Marque months ago - he was awarded best newcomer, missing the top fifty by a hair's breadth.
