London: The World Food Marathon at Andaz Liverpool Street

In anticipation of the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel will be hosting a World Food Marathon. In the 26-day run up to the Opening Ceremony (July 2nd – July 27th), the hotel’s resident chefs will be offering a daily dish, each one representing a different country.
Capturing the spirit of the Games, an event that truly unites nations from around the world, Andaz has drawn inspiration from the hotel’s multicultural staff. With over 40 nationalities making up the Andaz team, the hotel employees came together to share their heritage through food, working closely with the chefs to create quintessentially local dishes. Australian specialty Mango Pavlova and Lamingtons, Korean Spicy Pork, South African Bobotie and Polish Golabki are among the chosen signature dishes.
A random draw resulted in the 26 countries that will be represented on the menu, a nod to the 26 miles in a marathon. Embodying the multiculturalism of the host city, the dishes are a celebration of not only the Olympics but a symbol of gratitude from the hotel to its staff.
“With the Olympics bringing the world’s attention to London, we see this as a natural time to rejoice in what makes this a great city, a place that offers a wealth of talent and diversity through a multi-cultural population. What better way to celebrate than through the joy of food?‘‘ Arnaud de Saint Exupéry, Andaz Liverpool Street General Manager
Spread across the four Andaz restaurants, the international dishes will be served in 1901, within the grand surroundings complete with marble floors, neo-classical pillars and a striking stained-glass dome; Catch, recently named the ‘best sustainable seafood restaurant in London’; Eastway, a casual brasserie; or Miyako, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant.
Each day one special starter, main course or dessert will be offered.
The World Food Marathon will run from 2nd July – 27th July 2012 and prices start at £7 for starters, £14 for mains and £6 for dessert.
