Hong Kong: Café Gray Deluxe first Michelin Star

8th December 2010 – Café Gray Deluxe of The Upper House Hong Kong has been awarded its first Michelin Star in the Hong Kong Macau Michelin guide this week. The latest Hong Kong Macau guide includes 257 establishments from Hong Kong (215 restaurants and 42 hotels) and 52 establishments from Macau (38 restaurants and 14 hotels). It includes 71 new restaurants (64 from Hong Kong and seven from Macau) and two new hotels from Hong Kong, close to 25% of the total selection.
The third edition of the bilingual English and traditional Chinese Michelin guide, features a number of new selections that demonstrate a sustained improvement in culinary standards in Hong Kong and Macau. Chef Gray Kunz has adapted his lifetime’s experience leading the very finest kitchens in Europe, Asia and America to create an energetic and gourmet restaurant in one of the city’s most spectacular locations. His cuisine is a departure from traditional fine dining, to ‘everyday dishes’ with an accent on local organic produce and relaxed service.
Chef Gray Kunz commented “We are honoured to have been given this prestigious star rating from Michelin. The restaurant has grown from strength-to-strength since its opening in October 2009 and has become one of Hong Kong’s most vibrant and exciting venues.”
General Manager Dean Winter said “Café Gray Deluxe has played such an integral part in the success of this hotel, consistently delivering great food to our discerning clientele and offering an exciting option for new visitors to the city. To be recognised by such an internationally renowned guide is a real honour and a true reflection of the team’s hard work”.
The stylish interior design of Café Gray Deluxe includes breathtaking harbour views and double height ceilings, all creating an energetic dining space. The seductive bar and lounge is highlighted by a 14-metre long bar, parallel to an open kitchen feature and has become and popular and dynamic addition to the Hong Kong restaurant scene.
