Bangkok: Dine with the Stars

October has seen executive chef Margot Janse of South Africa's esteemed Le Quartier Francais, the leading boutique hotel in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, and her culinary team work their magic at The Sukhothai's La Scala restaurant. In November, La Scala will host Chef Gaetano Trovato of two Michelin-starred Arnolfo Ristorante in Siena, Italy. During his visit to Bangkok, Trovato will celebrate his restaurant's 25th anniversary with an exclusive wine dinner, six course lunch menu and nine course dinner menu available, showcasing the authentic flavours of Tuscany with a range of fresh and exciting dishes.
The Art of Dining programme will welcome in 2011 with a greatly anticipated visit by Claude Bosi of London's two Michelin-starred Hibiscus, from 26 to 29 January. Based in Ludlow, a town known for its culinary scene, until 2007 and recently relocated to London, Hibiscus is widely regarded for is seasonal and unmistakably Gallic menu. Bosi's award winning dishes will bring a flavour of France to Bangkok in January.
February at The Sukhothai will offer guests the opportunity to sample the delicate and creative cuisine of Chef Koji Shimomura, the brains behind the remarkable success story of Edition Koji Shimomura in Tokyo. Awarded two Michelin stars just two years after its opening, the restaurant has gained a reputation for sophisticated, modern, light French cuisine that incorporates a distinctive Japanese philosophy. Shimomura's 'haute couture cuisine' is sure to delight diners at La Scala.
The "Art of Dining" programme will continue throughout 2011 with visiting chefs scheduled for later in the year including Martin Boetz of the acclaimed Longrain in Sydney and Melbourne, Alex Atala of D.O.M. Gastronomia Brasileira in Sao Paulo, and Alain Passard of three Michelin starred L'Arpège in Paris. In February 2012, the programme will welcome Alfonso Laccarino of two Michelin starred Don Alfonso 1890 on Italy's Amalfi Coast, and more chefs will be added to the programme over the coming months.
