London: Harrods auction Glenfiddich 50-year old

One of only three bottles available in the UK in its first year of release, the precious Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is now on-sale at Harrods, with 20% of the sale going to the Evelina Children’s Hospital. Already famed as one of the most expensive Scotch whiskies ever auctioned, the Knightsbridge store is aiming to achieve £1,000 for every year the whisky has spent maturing in oak casks.
A collector’s dream, this limited edition whisky is destined to become a significant landmark in single malt whisky history. A product of time, the whisky is remarkably light and elegant on the palate and has an uplifting, vibrant and complex aroma. The taste is initially sweet and cascades through a wonderful series of layers: aromatic herbs, floral and soft fruits, silky oak tannin and hints of gentle smoke.
The beautiful packaging reflects the excellence of the whisky and is similarly rich with authenticity and heritage. The hand-blown bottle is individually numbered and comes in a beautiful hand-stitched, leather-bound case. It comes complete with a leather bound book detailing the whisky’s history and a certificate hand-signed by four of the Glenfiddich distillery’s long-serving craftsmen who watched over as the whisky matured.
The sale of the whisky will raise significant funds for the Evelina’s Children's Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals. Harrods proprietor Mohamed Al Fayed is a longstanding supporter of the Evelina and the money raised will help provide state of the art equipment for two new operating theatres. This will enable Evelina’s highly skilled surgeons and clinicians to provide the optimum care to their young patients and provide routine and emergency surgery to many more children.
The whisky is available from Harrods via auction with bids accepted from now until the end of March.
Minimum bids start at £15,000 and are subject to special terms and conditions.
