Philadelphia: two additions to Philly dining scene

Philadelphia: Acclaimed Chef Daniel Stern and business partner Suzette Mahoney announce the opening of two new projects this fall: MidAtlantic and R2L.

“2009 is shaping up to be an exciting year,” Chef Stern said. “Both MidAtlantic and R2L have very different culinary personalities and we think each will add new dimensions to the Philly dining scene. To be able to unite great food, personalized service and exceptional ambiance against some of Philadelphia’s most dramatic and historical locations is a unique opportunity."

MidAtlantic at the Science Center: MidAtlantic will be a modern taproom that nods to the culinary roots of the area with updated renditions of the traditional foods and beverages of the region. MidAtlantic will celebrate the intersection of the region’s Pennsylvania Dutch cooking and the produce market stalls that ran from the top of Market Street to the banks of the Delaware river in the 1700s. The restaurant will feature live music Thursday-Sunday evenings. MidAtlantic is slated to open in early Fall at 3711 Market Street.

R2L: A modern tribute to classic cocktail cuisine with elevated twists on American food, R2L will be one of the region’s most dramatic restaurants, sitting 500 feet above the city on the 37th floor of Two Liberty Place. The restaurant will feature spectacular wall-to-wall, unobstructed 360 degree views that span over 40 miles. R2L is slated to open in late Fall at Two Liberty Place.

The restaurants will join Stern’s acclaimed Gayle, a new American restaurant located in Queen Village.

Stern, who has received much acclaim for creative and innovative interpretations of American cuisine at his Philadelphia restaurants Gayle and Rae, now closed, will continue his tradition of blending bold cuisine with dynamic spaces when he brings two exciting new projects to Philadelphia.
