Swanning off on a cruise

Feel like a spot of messing about on the river? Swan Hellenic have announced their new River 2010 itineraries- and this time around, they've added the Rhine to join a line-up which includes existing trips on the Danube and the Rhone.
The Rhine cruise onboard A-ROSA Aqua vessels takes in a scenic round trip from Cologne, and passengers are positively spoiled with the range of inclusive excursions on offer. Those of an active disposition might engage in a walking tour of Basle- a classy affair including a visit to the Pflaz royal residence. Continuing on the 'royal', theme, fans of the monarchy may also like to take a tour of the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens.

Swan Hellenic are keen for their passengers to become submerged in local culture and history on their travels. There's a range of lectures from onboard expert speakers- perhaps on the topic of Roman campaigns to the South of France on the Rhone, an exploration of the origins of Baroque art and architecture and stories behind the Cold War whilst cruising the Danube, or taking in tales of finds dating back to Neolithic man, military campaigns fought over the Alsace region or the story behind 'Martin Luther and the Diet of Worms' along the Rhine.

The intimate ships all cater to fewer than 200 passengers- with all cabins enjoying outside locations, with a raft of public rooms and decks if you're feeling sociable. The current price promise offers a great deal- an 8-day river cruise starts from just £1325 p.p. including flights and transfers- and if you see a better prices in Swan's future brochures, they'll refund the difference. Whet your whistle? Visit or call the booking line on 0845 017 0017.
