Welcome, all too soon, to autumn.

September's always a busy month for food travellers, the mellowing weather means ripening fruits, the autumn harvest and grape picking are just around the corner. With that in mind, Foodtripper sent The Hungry Cyclist  pedalling along the Moselle River Valley to sample a glass or two of Riesling, and Andrew Copestake to the Rhineland to meet a maverick group of young organic winemakers flying in the face of traditional winemaking methods.

If you're out and about this month, give our events guide  a glance- September takes in the Sud de France Festival and Scottish Food Fortnight, plus Foodtripper's very own Walking Food Tours.

Take a break from it all with afternoon tea - Zoe Perrett's got the lowdown on a month-long pop-up event not to be missed in Mayfair and for even more indulgence, read our mouth-watering report on sheer luxury at Madrid's fabulous Hospes Hotel, where Rob Train felt sampling a little of everything from the new Senzone tapas menu was the only logical way to go.

Finally, if a break's in order but you're feeling a little squeezed, take the Langham Hotel Quiz; our exclusive comp could bag you an overnight stay and meal for two at London's sumptuously refurbished Langham Hotel.

Enjoy September

Helen

Foodtripper: The Collection has just launched. This boutique selection of the world's best cookery holidays brings global gourmet retreats direct to your fingertips... your very own delicious escape is just a click away. On Foodtripper TV, we’ve invited top chef Rowley Leigh to make the most of Spain's short-lived Picota cherry season, cooking up a classic clafoutis. And we have a fab holiday to Spain's Jerte Valley for one lucky individual.

In anticipation of a long, hot, British summer I stay close to home dropping by Le Cafe Anglais where Rowley Leigh  - just turned 60 - shares future plans  for the restaurant and role as poster boy for the forthcoming Picota cherry season. Across town, at The Lanesborough, Heinz Beck's elegant summer menu is served. Go there for the chaud-froid Herbal infusion with tuna tartare and green tea sorbet - more Mediterranean gluttony than molecular gastronomy.

Foodtripper met the most lauded chefs on earth at The World's Fifty Best Restaurant Awards. Taking 1st prize is Noma in Copehagen knocking El Bulli off the top spot and sending a ripple effect through the chart. Heston moves down to 3rd place. Hibiscus is in, by a whisker, at number 49 leaving the total number of Brits in the top 50 at a mere three.
