The Hungry Cyclist is back, still panting from a pedal-powered reckie of the lush island of Taiwan.

Sent exclusively by Foodtripper, Tom spent a week cycling leisurely around the ‘Land of Eternal Spring’ breaking bread with the ancient Taroko people, popping handfuls of live hopping-shrimp on the shores of Lake Liyu and elbowing his way through thronging crowds in the Shilin night food market - all for a bowl of beef noodles.

Forget the French, the Taiwanese are seriously obsessed with their grub; they are very possibly the most food-obsessed people on our good earth. Tom's fascinating six-part series begins here

Resident Indian food expert, Maju Malhi, explores the latest food trend to sweep India: Chinjabi cuisine – happily it's on the menu at Seasoning in Fulham – so you don't have to go all the way to the Himalayas to try it. Elsewhere on London’s restaurant scene I was thrilled to hear a personal favourite, Sushinho, the Japanese-Brazilian fusion resto on King’s Road, took delivery of two AA Rosettes recently, and much deserved, too.

Travel columnist Anna Maria Espsater’s feet seem to barely touch the ground these days; she writes most recently from Salzburg and reveals there are indeed a few rising star restaurants to be found in a city not normally associated with haute cuisine.

Foodtripper has some great prizes to give away. We have partnered with the luxurious Malmaison Hotel in London to offer one lucky quiz winner, plus guest, a sumptuous overnight stay, including dinner and breakfast this coming autumn. And from the London Thai Festival in August, there is a pair of tickets up for grabs. But to be in the running you have to enter a quiz.

Good luck

Helen

Foodtripper: The Collection has just launched. This boutique selection of the world's best cookery holidays brings global gourmet retreats direct to your fingertips... your very own delicious escape is just a click away. On Foodtripper TV, we’ve invited top chef Rowley Leigh to make the most of Spain's short-lived Picota cherry season, cooking up a classic clafoutis. And we have a fab holiday to Spain's Jerte Valley for one lucky individual.

In anticipation of a long, hot, British summer I stay close to home dropping by Le Cafe Anglais where Rowley Leigh  - just turned 60 - shares future plans  for the restaurant and role as poster boy for the forthcoming Picota cherry season. Across town, at The Lanesborough, Heinz Beck's elegant summer menu is served. Go there for the chaud-froid Herbal infusion with tuna tartare and green tea sorbet - more Mediterranean gluttony than molecular gastronomy.

Foodtripper met the most lauded chefs on earth at The World's Fifty Best Restaurant Awards. Taking 1st prize is Noma in Copehagen knocking El Bulli off the top spot and sending a ripple effect through the chart. Heston moves down to 3rd place. Hibiscus is in, by a whisker, at number 49 leaving the total number of Brits in the top 50 at a mere three.
