Helen Hokin's Pick of the Week

Helen Hokin's Pick of the Week
The hottest day of the year? Absolutely. It's this coming Thursday, 2nd July when All Star Lanes, Brick Lane, London plays host to the national Masterchef chilli cook-off competition.

Contestants will be feeling the heat as the judging panel - including yours truly - taste our way through dozens of fiery bowls of the stuff to find the the winning dish.

Also this week we have a star-spangled line up of features and ideas to help you plan for Independence Day in style.

First up we welcome Californian food writer, Bradley Tuck to the Foodtripper team of columnists. After twelve years in his envy-inducing adopted home of West Hollywood we thought he was well placed to seek out the best burger in a bun with which to celebrate the birth of a nation. To get his verdict check out his feature, Wholly Cow! on the homepage. Still Stateside, Zoe Perrett has trawled America's historic cities: Boston, NYC, Philadelphia and D.C. for those restaurants offering a bit more bang for your buck. Literally, if it's fireworks with your food you're after, this image led feature is well worth checking out.

And finally, something for those of us destined to spend the day in blighty: We sent long-term London resident and American Expat, Steve Williams to road test the rootbeers and knock a few pins at All Star Lanes bowling alley. He was favourably impressed; the alcoholic milkshakes helped.

Enjoy,

Helen
